Since 1974, the main criteria for measuring the efficiency of building insulation products have considered only one mode of energy transfer, which is conduction. Tests have assumed it is only the thickest of insulation which slows thermal loss but they have not addressed the other modes of heat retention or transfer. Applying a standard laboratory Hot Box test or traditionally convenient heat transfer tests to multi-reflective insulation products can only produce unrepresentative results.
